See ‘An Inconvenient Sequel’ at The Plough on Tuesday 10th October

The Plough Arts Theatre in Torrington will be showing ‘An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power’ in association with 361 Energy CIC on Tuesday 10th October. The film is the sequel to the Academy Award winning ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ made in 2006, which followed former US Vice President Al Gore’s campaign to educate the public about global warming.

The new film addresses progress made to tackle the problem of climate change and Al Gore’s global efforts to persuade Government leaders to invest in renewable energy, culminating in the landmark signing of 2016’s Paris Climate Agreement.

Over the last few weeks there have been two Category 4 hurricanes and two Category 5 hurricanes in the Caribbean, which have caused more than $180 billion of damage. While an individual hurricane cannot be attributed to Climate Change, the higher atmospheric and ocean temperatures are contributing to stronger storms. Some like President Trump may not recognise the human influence on Climate Change while others think they will only see the effects in a few decades time. However, the impacts of Climate Change however are being felt now.

It is not all doom and gloom as there is a revolution taking place in renewable electricity generation along with rapid development of electric vehicles. Nearly every country in the world has signed up to the Paris agreement which aims to limit Climate Change to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. Find out more about the impacts of Climate Change and how we are attempting to address the issue in this inspiring documentary. The film will be introduced by Georg van den Berg, a renewable energy developer, based in North Devon, but working on renewable energy and battery storage projects around the world.
